Friend of FOAF Rob Leonard, with whom we worked on the Off-West End nominated production of Ondine, is the workshop co-ordinator for The British Academy of Stage & Screen Combat, a non-profit-making organisation currently celebrating their 20th anniversary.
Between 29th July – 10th August, BASSC will be hosting a series of stage combat workshops at Islington Arts & Media School. With classes at Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Level, you can pick up and develop new abilities, then opt in to receive industry-recognised accreditation certificate. The courses are pricey but they offer actors (and non-actors!) a unique opportunity to add to their skill set and explore stage combat and stunts. THE BASIC STAGE COMBAT WORKSHOP
Unar med Combat / Rapier & Dagger
If you have little or no experience in stage combat but have always wanted to learn then this is the course for you! The Basic offers a thorough foundation in stage combat skills with equal emphasis on safety, technique, style and performance, and is equivalent to the training you would receive at an accredited drama school. No prior experience is necessary. At the end of the course you have the opportunity to take the BASSC Fight Performance Test. Course Fees: Full Price £499.00; BASSC Members £449.00
THE INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED WORKSHOP
Smallsword / Quarterstaff
In addition to training in two new weapon styles, the Intermediate/Advanced workshop includes a series of related acting classes to enhance the performance of stage fighting. This workshop is open to those who have a Basic certificate in stage fighting from a recognised Stage Combat organisation (BASSC, BADC, SAFD, etc).
Course Fees: Full Price £499.00; BASSC Members £449.00
The BASSC’s qualified staff are experienced stage combat professionals who teach at the UK’s leading drama schools (RADA, Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, East 15, Birmingham School of Acting, Drama Studio London, Italia Conti) and have worked widely in theatre and film.
To ensure a high staff-to-student ratio, places on the workshop will be limited.
